We’re proud to welcome Maison Martin Morel to NewWall: a French atelier with more than a century of artistry woven into its history. Founded in the heart of France’s textile region, the house has long been defined by its devotion to pattern, craft, and quiet innovation.
In our era, its story unfolds in a new form. Join us, as we explore how Maison Martin Morel’s legacy continues to shape the surfaces of today.
Meet Maison Martin Morel
Maison Martin Morel’s story begins in 1896 near Lyon, the historic heart of French textile printing.
For decades, the family workshop produced patterned fabrics for fashion and interiors…intricate florals, geometrics, and hand-rendered motifs that reflected the artistic pulse of their time. These designs, preserved in the brand’s archives, form a living record of French decorative craft.
Since 2013, Maison Martin Morel began a new chapter: transforming its century-old textile artistry into wallpaper.
The archive remains central to its identity, but the interpretation is entirely new. The brand now translates the rhythm and tactility of woven pattern into wall surfaces, using modern materials and printing processes that maintain the spirit of the originals while meeting the needs of contemporary design.
This evolution from fabric to wallcovering isn’t a departure, but a continuation. It’s the same design language, now spoken through a different medium.
Design as Continuation
Maison Martin Morel’s approach carries a distinct textile sensitivity. You can see it in how patterns flow across the wall, in the repetition and pacing that feels more woven than printed. Original sketches and gouaches are studied, scaled, and adapted, sometimes magnified to reveal painterly detail, sometimes simplified to let texture and light take the lead.
Each design becomes a bridge between eras: early 20th-century artistry interpreted for 21st-century interiors. This balance of history and modernity defines the Maison’s aesthetic, refined, expressive, and confident.
These are surfaces that tell a story. They bring depth and movement without dominating a space, inviting the viewer to experience pattern as atmosphere rather than ornament.
Crafted in France
Production remains rooted in France, preserving the Maison’s connection to its origins in the Rhône-Alpes region. The process blends traditional craft with contemporary innovation, responsibly sourced materials, advanced eco-printing, and a focus on tactile, dimensional finishes.
Each wallpaper carries a sense of human touch: heritage craft expressed through modern precision. That’s what gives Maison Martin Morel’s work its integrity; a lineage of making that’s tangible in every surface.
A New Chapter with NewWall
At NewWall, we seek out designers who view surface as storytelling. Maison Martin Morel embodies that philosophy completely.
Their wallpapers extend a family tradition of pattern-making into a new context, offering designers a way to layer heritage, texture, and restraint in one timeless medium.
Now live on newwall.com, the debut collection reflects the brand’s founding idea, honor the archive and design for now, with a focus on:
- Archive-to-interior storytelling: motifs reinterpreted through modern scale and tone.
- Material presence: surfaces that read as textured and dimensional, even in quiet palettes.
- Design longevity: wallpapers that create cohesion and warmth rather than compete for attention.
Each design captures the Maison’s rare ability to balance history with modernity, a dialogue between eras, translated beautifully for today’s interior, and we’re honored to welcome them to the NewWall portfolio.
