Black Friday always seems to arrive when life is already moving at full speed.

As a mother, a business owner, and someone fortunate to work alongside a strong team, most days involve a lot of juggling: meetings, decisions, family schedules, dinners, messages, and the endless little things that need our attention.

I love having a full life. But I’m learning that a full life doesn’t necessarily need to be filled with more things.

And I recognize the irony in saying that.

I’m in the business of selling beautiful things.

My work is built around design, wallpaper, textiles, and helping people bring beautiful things into their homes. So perhaps it sounds a little hypocritical for me to talk about overconsumption.

But working in this industry has actually made me more conscious of the difference between buying more and choosing well.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday create urgency. Our inboxes fill up, sales are counting down, and suddenly everything feels like an opportunity we shouldn't miss.

I've learned to create a little space between wanting something and deciding to own it.

• Would I want this if it weren't on sale?
• Do I genuinely love it, or am I reacting to the moment?
• Can I imagine still appreciating it years from now?

Sometimes the answer is yes. And sometimes waiting a day gives you your answer.

Working in design, I'm constantly surrounded by trends. They're inspiring and introduce us to new ideas, but I don't believe our homes need to change every time they do.

To me, timeless design isn't about choosing something safe. It's about choosing something that feels so true to you that you want to keep living with it.

• Does this genuinely feel like me?
• Would I still choose it if I hadn't seen it everywhere?
• Could I imagine building a room around it for years to come?

At NewWall, this is one of the reasons I'm drawn to wallpapers and textiles with real craftsmanship behind them. A beautiful wallpaper doesn't have to be temporary. It can become an anchor that the rest of the room continues to evolve around.

I love the idea that a home is never really finished but that doesn't mean we need to continuously start over.

Maybe you still love the wallpaper you chose years ago. Keep it. Add a beautiful chair. Bring in new art. Move a table from another room. Reupholster something you've owned for years.

The room can change without erasing its story.

Before replacing everything, I like to ask:

• What do I already love here?
• What deserves to stay?
• Could one thoughtful addition give this space new life?

I think homes become more interesting when they're allowed to collect layers from different periods of our lives.

The older I get, the more important this question becomes.

When I think about what I genuinely want more of, very little of it can be added to a shopping cart.

I want more dinners where nobody is rushing away from the table. More conversations with my children. More time with family and friends. More travel, more meaningful work with people I trust and occasionally, more time to simply breathe.

So this Black Friday, perhaps the most important questions are:

• What do I actually want more of?
• What deserves my time and attention?
• Will this purchase add to my life or simply add another thing to it?

Yes, I sell beautiful things. And yes, I believe we could all be more thoughtful about how much we consume.

Those ideas don't have to contradict each other.

Choose things you genuinely love. Let your home evolve around them. And leave enough space in your life for the people and moments that matter even more.
