Fabric Forecast: Fall Edition

Fabric Forecast: Fall Edition

By Maria RacoJul 28, 2025

As the season shifts, I’m craving interiors with more weight, more tactility, more mood. But fall styling doesn’t mean going dark and heavy, it's about layering smarter. These are the fabrics I’m reaching for now: rich, breathable, and ready to soften the transition.

Velvet That Breathes

Velvet isn’t just for winter. I love it most when it’s used sparingly—one statement cushion, a headboard panel, or a feature wall that brings depth without dragging the room down. Go for plums, inky greens, or warm browns that feel earthy, not overdone.

Tip: Swap out summer-weight cotton pillow covers for velvet or velvet-trimmed styles on beds or sofas. Instant mood lift.

A Seasonal Shift - Linen

Think less driftwood and stone, more umber, forest, and oxblood. Fall linen still breathes - it just does it with structure. It’s the perfect way to shift the tone of a room without making things feel fussy.

Tip: Use heavier linen for full-length curtains, especially in rooms that get lower light this time of year. It holds shape, frames the view, and adds quiet drama.

Ground the Room

This is where function meets polish. I like these blends in transitional spaces - entryways, dining rooms, anywhere you want a little bit of softness with a tailored finish. Look for slubby textures, subtle patterns, and deeper base tones.

Tip: Layer a cotton throw over the end of a bed or bench in a contrasting tone. It’s a styling move and a practical one.

You don’t need a full fabric overhaul - just a few smart shifts. Add something heavier, something darker, something with texture. The room will do the rest.
