With Cinco de Mayo just around the corner, I’ve found myself slipping into daydreams of Mexico. The food, the weather, the culture, it’s enough to distract even the most focused of minds. In my case, I instantly drifted to interiors.
The heavenly haciendas, bursting with vibrant beauty are enough to make any design lover weak at the knees. It got me thinking, how could these themes inspire interiors? So, without further ado, here are 4 ways you can introduce the magic of mexican style into your space.
1. Color palette selection
Wallpapers and fabrics are your most obvious options, but it can feel daunting in practice. I’d recommend incorporating this loud, vibrant tones with warm, earthy ones such as terracotta and ochre, to really tie everything together.
2. Incorporate Traditional Tiling
One of my favorite things about Mexican design, is the stunning, Talavera Tiles.
Intricately designed in an eclectic array of beautiful ways, these would be a gorgeous homage to mexican culture in an interior.
3. A nod to the artists
When I think of Mexican artistry, I instantly think of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. These icons so perfectly encapsulate the very essence of Mexican style in their creations. What better way to pay homage, than by introducing that same spark into your space?
Whether it’s through artwork or wallpaper, remember to look for designs that instantly bring warmth, positivity and vibrancy to their surroundings.
4. Quirky nods
Sometimes, the best interior inspirations come from lived experience. If you’ve visited Mexico, think of a memory that brought you joy (I’m sure there were many), and consider a visual that instantly reminds you of that memory.
This is a great way to welcome a little twist on cultural celebration, and allows you to create a quirky nod to a place that’s connected solely through lived experience.
